Working with Missisquoi

Recently Alnôbaiwi members started working with Jordan King, the Community Health Worker from the Abenaki Nation of Missisquoi, to provide vegetables for their food shelf and teach traditional gardening methods as they plan for a revamp of their tribal gardens next Zigwan (Spring). We are honored to serve our Vermont Abenaki community and thankful to our partners at the Intervale Center and UVM Horticultural Farm for helping us bring healthy traditional foods to our people. So far the menu has included our only summer squash, the White Scallop, an ancient variety that is delicious in a stir fry, Hardwick ground cherries, and some Calais flint corn that the squirrels graciously left for us after their mid-summer feast. We are looking forward to continuing the harvest (hopefully mostly ahead of our animal relatives) and providing more nourishing food for our community and seed to save for their future gardens.
