Planting Fiddleheads

image_67231233.JPG

This week after the rains stopped we planted 20 baby fiddleheads with the help of our partners at the Winooski Valley Parks District and the Intervale Center, along the pathways around Ethan Allen Homestead and a short walk from Negôni Alnôbaakik. Possibly due to over foraging and invasive species like goutweed and garlic mustard, the Ostrich fern appears to be struggling to hang on in some areas along the Winooski river floodplain in Burlington and Winooski. The baby plants were provided to us through the City Nature Celebration Project that recently hosted a nature celebration that included a forest regeneration initiative in the silver-maple-ostrich-fern-floodplain-forest along the Winooski river.
