Atlatls

Spear throwing devices were used by many cultures including Native Americans. These examples were carved from black cherry and ash. At top is one carved from a cherry tree branch. A thin fletched dart, 4-7 feet in length could be fitted to the point, held with fingers and launched with substantial force.
