‘In the Abenaki Way’

A 501c-3 non-profit dedicated to preserving Vermont Abenaki cultural heritage.

Cultural Awakening & Living Heritage

Since Alnôbaiwi came to the Burlington Intervale in late 2018, there has been a remarkable blossoming of Vermont Abenaki cultural and environmental heritage, including a collection of clothing, tools and sacraments that are routinely used by Alnôbaiwi in their ceremonies, or their studies in understanding past Indigenous life in the Champlain Valley.

It includes a unique Abenaki village, styled to the 1850's the period when Vermonters thought that the Abenakis had disappeared, complete with ceremonial dance ground and demonstration and medicine wood gardens.  It also includes indoor educational programming, outdoor ceremonies, and living history events that draw hundreds of students, visitors and Indigenous guests.
